Taylor Triumphs at Pebble, Rory’s Back on Top and Watson’s One to Watch!
Nick Taylor claimed victory this week at the iconic Pebble Beach course in California. The Canadian triumphed by four shots over American Kevin Streelman in the unique Pro-Am format event which sees the Professionals joined by an amateur throughout the four-round tournament.
This week sees the west coast swing come to an end on the PGA Tour, and what better place for the finale than Riviera Country Club. The major championship venue is famous for its 6th hole, where the 199-yard par 3 is guarded by bunkers short, left and long as well as one in the middle of the green! Throughout the week you will see many players being forced to chip from the putting surface to negotiate the renowned trap, providing great viewing for spectators, and more than likely some nervy moments for players! At this point, I’m sure our Head Greenkeeper would appreciate us saying this is a high tariff shot so please don’t try this at home!
The Genesis Open, hosted by Tiger Woods has attracted an impressive field, nine of the top ten players in the world are teeing it up this week with newly crowned world number one Rory Mcilroy leading the way. Mcilroy has spent 1600 days away from the top spot and will no doubt be looking for a big performance this week to cement his place at the head of the standings. The likes of Koepka, Rahm and Thomas are all hot on the heels of Mcilroy, and this week could be the first of many where this new era of stars battle it out for the top honour.
For the second time in three weeks, our one to watch is Bubba Watson. The lefty was last tipped three weeks ago at The Phoenix Open where he finished in a tie for third place. Coming off the back of that solid week, the big hitter returns to Riviera where he is a three-time winner and we fully expect to see him up there in the mix on Sunday evening.
